The new “Further checks” section on SDBcheck®

On the occasion of the 5th anniversary of SDBcheck®, we are pleased to open a new chapter in the history of SDBcheck®: “More checks” on SDBcheck®.

The first of the other checks on SDBcheck® is the so-called heading check. In addition to checking the plausibility of your safety data sheet, you can now also check its headings for REACH compliance.

The SDBcheck® headline check: A new tool for checking safety data sheets for REACH compliance

The REACH regulation is the European Union’s most important law on the regulation of chemical substances. It obliges companies to create comprehensive safety data sheets to communicate hazards and protective measures for chemicals. These safety data sheets must not only be complete and plausible, but must also comply with the specific requirements of the regulation, particularly with regard to the structure and naming of the sections and subsections. This is regulated in detail by Annex II of the REACH Regulation.

Each section of a safety data sheet is precisely defined and the naming of these sections and their subsections is strictly specified in Annex II of the REACH Regulation. This ensures a uniform structure and facilitates handling both for users of the products and for authorities that check compliance with the REACH requirements.

Incorrect or outdated headings could not only impair the clarity of the safety data sheet, but also lead to violations of the REACH Regulation.

With the new headline check from SDBcheck®, Premium premium users can check the safety data sheets of their suppliers as well as their own self-generated safety data sheets for REACH conformity. For this purpose, the headings of the 16 main sections and the mandatory subsections are automatically read out and compared with the requirements of the REACH Regulation (Annex II). Users receive clear results for each heading as to whether this:

  • is REACH compliant, (The heading fully complies with the requirements.)
  • obsolete (The heading was once valid, but has since been replaced by an updated specification).
  • … or is missing. (A heading required by Annex II is not present in the safety data sheet).

It is also possible to contact the creator of the safety data sheet directly for deviations in the heading check. The creator can be informed directly from SDBcheck® that their safety data sheet is not REACH-compliant and needs to be revised.

With the SDBcheck® headline check, you can conveniently check your safety data sheets for REACH compliance and quickly identify possible deviations. This ensures that your SDSs are always up-to-date and REACH-compliant, avoids legal risks and optimizes safety in chemicals management.
